Our Coronavirus Plans

Free Custom Course Packets and Special Coronavirus Content

O tempora! O morbum! Whether you’re transitioning to online learning, banding together to share instructional content, or fully preoccupied by doing whatever it takes to care for yourself and your loved ones, we hope that all of our readers are safe, secure, and as stress-free as anyone can be at a time like this. Not everyone is, of course, so we are doing what little we can on our end to help. For now, this means offering our custom course packets for free and adapting our publications to the present circumstances.

Content

We are planning on being flexible with our publishing schedule in order to give our writers and editors the support they need. For some, self-care might look like hunkering down to write 3k words about antiquity; for others, it might mean caring for loved ones, checking out with some entertainment, or spending every ounce of their creative output on not murdering their cohabitants. People are different. But if you’re anything like us, you’re probably drawing on your love of Classics for comfort.

To that end, we’ll be tailoring much of our upcoming content to the current pandemic crisis. Later today, regular columnist Nandini Pandey will be launching a special version of her “Romans Go Home” column (temporarily retitled “Romans Stay Home”). Nandini will offer frequent entries that touch on antiquity and the coronavirus. These are hard times, but we expect that Nandini’s words will offer the solace they always do.

We also plan to publish a combination of old (but relevant) content and new (also relevant) articles, depending on whether or not the team feels up to it. It’s an evolving situation, but we expect much of our energy will go towards the following:

Course Packets

We are offering free custom course packets to instructors and their students. Instructors can choose from any of the articles listed in this Google doc, and we will create and list the packet for $0 in our store. We should be able to churn these out within 48 hours of any order, but an overload of orders may extend that time somewhat.

Any articles you choose from the catalog will be bundled into fully-hyperlinked PDFs, ideal for students who might not have continuous internet access. Each article has discussion questions, key terms, and links to further ancient and modern reading; many of them also have updated afterwords from the authors.

Want to assign articles on a topic that doesn’t seem to be covered in the above listing? Email, or tweet at us, and we can offer suggestions for online reading. If you’re teaching a course on pubic hair removal or ancient zombies, for example, we’ve got you covered.

Sending strength to everyone!

Love,
The Eidolon team
